Description

The Building Blocks of Impact

Impact is a hot topic for researchers, playing an important part in the Research Excellence Framework and a key priority for funders. But impact doesn’t just happen. It needs to be considered early in any research project and you will need a plan and a budget for impact generation and capture.

In this workshop you will reflect on the impact potential of your research and on how well prepared you are to create and capture it. You will look at the important role played by stakeholders and the need to get your research ‘out there’ through effective communication. You will begin the process of creating a ‘value proposition’ for your research – one of the first and most important building blocks for generating impact.

This session is for you if:

  • You need to refresh your understanding of the essentials of impact
  • You need to stimulate your thinking about the potential impact of your research
  • You want to start/improve your plan for generating and capturing impact

Key features of the session:

  • Identify what impact is (and isn’t), the different types of impact and the potential reach and significance of your research
  • Explore the role of stakeholders in helping to generate and capture impact
  • Make a start on your Impact Map
